About Wisdom Tooth Removal

Wisdom teeth, or third molars, are the last set of permanent teeth to erupt, usually between the ages of 17 and 25. Because modern human jaws are smaller, these teeth often lack space to erupt properly, becoming impacted (stuck in the bone or gums). Impacted wisdom teeth can cause severe pain, swelling, tooth decay in adjacent teeth, gum infections, and cysts.

At Grace Dental Care, our oral surgeon performs wisdom tooth extractions with a highly refined, painless protocol. We use digital X-rays and CBCT scans to locate the roots in relation to nerves precisely. The procedure is done under local anaesthesia, ensuring you feel zero pain. We also use advanced techniques to minimise swelling and ensure a rapid, comfortable recovery at home.

Signs You May Need This Treatment

If you identify with any of the following, a clinical consultation is strongly recommended.

Severe Jaw Pain & StiffnessDull ache or throbbing pain in the back of the jaw, extending to the ear.
Swollen, Bleeding GumsRedness and swelling around the partially erupted tooth root (pericoronitis).
Difficulty Opening MouthLockjaw or discomfort when chewing and opening wide due to surrounding muscle inflammation.
Bad Breath or Bad TasteFood easily traps under flaps of gum tissue over the wisdom tooth, rotting and causing odour.
Sinus Pain or PressureUpper wisdom tooth roots pushing against sinuses, causing sinus congestion and headaches.
Cysts on Dental X-RaysA fluid-filled sac forming around the impacted tooth, which can damage jawbone and nerve tissue.

Step-by-Step Procedure

What to expect at every stage of your treatment journey.

1
Clinical Evaluation & Panoramic X-Ray
We take a digital Panoramic X-Ray (OPG) to check root anatomy, impaction angle, and proximity to the mandibular nerve.

2
Deep Local Anaesthesia
We administer local anaesthesia to completely numb the tooth, gums, and bone. We verify you feel absolutely nothing before starting.
⏱ 10 mins
3
Surgical Exposure & Sectioning
If the tooth is under the bone, a small incision is made in the gum. The tooth is safely cut into small segments (sectioned) for gentle removal.
⏱ 15–30 mins
4
Extraction & Cleaning
The segments are gently removed. The socket is thoroughly irrigated with saline, cleaned, and a healing gel is placed.

Treatment FAQs

No. The extraction procedure is completely painless. We use effective local anaesthetics to fully numb the area. You will only feel some pressure as the tooth is being wiggled. Post-operative soreness is managed with painkillers.
A dry socket is a painful condition that occurs when the blood clot in the extraction socket is dislodged or dissolves, exposing the bone and nerves. Avoid it by not spitting, not smoking, and not using straws for 5 days.
Most patients can return to work or school 2 days after the extraction. If your job involves heavy lifting or physical labor, take 3–4 days of rest to prevent bleeding.
No. If your wisdom teeth are fully erupted, aligned correctly, functional, and easy to clean, they do not need to be removed. Extraction is only recommended if they are impacted, decayed, or causing infection.
